Google Ads brighten up white supremacists' day with a bit of colour

Online magazine First Post reports that users logging into GreenArrow.com, the forum for the far right British National Party had an unexpected multi-cultural surprise courtesy of Google Ads.

While looking at weighty issues such as (London Tory Mayoral candidate) Boris Johnson "expressing pride at his Muslim ancestry" and asking "who really runs the world?", they noticed a series of full colour banner ads at the top of the page...

... one was for Inter-Racial Romances.com and the other for Muslima - "a truly Muslim marriage and matrimonial service."

According to the First Post:

"Google Ads evidently decided that because of the multiple uses of words such as Muslim and Arab the site was 'relevant' to its clients' interests."

Hats off to Google's 'targeted' ad programme for something that inadvertently made our local white nationalists splutter into their tea with indignation:

"I thought I was on the wrong forum," wrote one visitor. Another, Sarah, Maid of Albion, wrote: "I do find it rather offensive given that the picture clearly shows an Asian man and a Caucasian woman."
