(UPDATE - In light of CSIState doing me the honour of linking back to this page, I've posted a new article, and yes their twitter feed is real)
The other month we posted about 'Janet' who maintained a fake Exxon Mobil Twitter account for several days until she was found out. In fact, research we carried out shows that most major companies currently don't use Twitter and are open to brand jacking.
A US website has now cast doubt over another Twitter account this one involving the US State Department - the American Foreign Office / Ministry. Pop culture guide 'Jaunted' pointed out the unusually (for a Govt dept) colloquial language used in the posts - "Lucky for you, the State Department has begun posting its country profiles and travel advisories on Twitter." Lucky for you?Jaunted said that there is no mention of the Twitter feed on the State Department website, despite another official Twitter feed (DipNote) being listed, and that it's direct message to the CSI State Twitter editor has so far been ignored.
Other arms of the US Government with a Twitter presence include NASA, The White House and both houses of congress. In the UK, No 10 Downing Street (the Prime Minister's Office) is on Twitter, along with The Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
